Participation Rules to the 3rd El Grito Festival

  • The call for films registration has a deadline of August 31, 2021.
  • The event will take place from November 26 to December 4, 2021 in person in San Cristóbal, Venezuela, and Cúcuta, Colombia, and with online programming from different platforms.
  • Short films with a duration from 1 to 25 minutes with credits included are accepted.
  • Filmmakers selected in previous editions can apply.
  • Short films in the following categories may participate:
    • International Horror
    • International Fantasy
    • International Animation
    • International Documentary
    • International VideoArt 
    • International Music Video
    • National (Venezuela)
    • Cell phone films
  • Short films should fit into the following genres and sub-genres: science fiction, thriller, suspense, film noir, black humor, gore, slasher, and the like.
  • The films must have a completion date from January 2019.
  • Short films from any region of the world are accepted.
  • AWARDS:
    • The winning short films in each category of the Festival will have an exclusive exhibition in Venezuela by the Gran Cine Circuit in physical movie theaters and its Impact Movies VOD platform. This exhibition will be held in October 2022 as a Halloween special.
    • The winning for Best National Short Film obtains an international distribution contract sponsored by TANU DISTRIBUTION, while the selected one for Best Venezuelan University Short Film receives a distribution award from FESTIVALEANDO.
    • The winning films in each category (does not apply for special mentions) receive a statuette of El Grito. This award does not cover the shipping service.
  • The reception of shorts will be through the web. Films outside of Venezuela will be received through our partner platforms: Filmfreeway / FestHome / Click for festivals / Movibeta, while Venezuelan filmmakers or producers residing inside and outside the country must register through the registration form hosted at elgritoproduce.com.
  • The registration fee for international short films in any of our categories is established as follows: $5 (from 01/15/2021 to 02/27/2021); $ 6 (from 03/01/2021 to 04/15/2021); $ 8 (from 04/16/2021 to 05/31/2021); $ 10 (from 06/01 to 07/15/2021); $ 12 (from 07/16/2021 to 08/31/2021).
  • Venezuelan filmmakers and producers inside and outside the country do not pay a registration fee.
  • Venezuelan participants who register films carried out outside of Venezuela are nominated as international works, while films carried out within Venezuelan territory are nominated in the national competition.
  • Short films that are not spoken in Spanish must include subtitles in this language in SRT format. English subtitles will be accepted when not available in Spanish.
  • Entries for works that have already been submitted in previous editions are not allowed.
  • More than one work per director is accepted. However, registration does not guarantee the screening / selection within the Festival.
  • The Organizing Committee will curate the material received, where the films that participate in the official competition will be selected. The programming of projections will be established according to well-founded criteria.
  • Recognitions will be awarded in the festival categories, in addition to the following special mentions:

  • The jury will be made up of 3 members of recognized trajectory in the cinematographic industry and related areas, with different fields of expertise, always including researchers or teachers to give importance to cinema as an aesthetic phenomenon and research product.
  • After the exhibition in the event, the filmmakers will be given the opportunity to further disseminate their films through projections in regional distribution circuits.
  • Registration in the event implies the authorization of the filmmakers to the organizers for the exhibition of their work, not only at the festival, but also in special exhibitions, in addition to the use of images, posters or part of their work (no more than 20 seconds) for the promotion of the event.
